Influencer Gets 10 Year Jail Sentence For 'Corrupting Young People' With Her Instagram Posts

Sahar Tabar, an Iranian Instagram star, was arrested and sentenced to 10 years in prison after she posted doctored images online.

19-year-old Tabar, whose real name is Fatemeh Khishvand, had gained popularity on Instagram, boasting of 486,000 followers at one time.

Tabar shared images and videos with her followers, and in some, she had on filters that made her look like a zombie. Authorities claimed that she disrespected the Islamic Republic through the images.

The images were also accused of corrupting the minds of young children. She was charged with blasphemy, inciting violence, gaining wealth through inappropriate means, and encouraging young people for corruption.

She claimed that she was cleared of two of the four charges, but refused to provide any further details. She is hoping to get a complete pardon.

Tabar was arrested a year ago, and had requested a release from detention on claims that she had been infected by COVID-19.

The local media has portrayed her as a "victim with an abnormal personality and mental state," which has been backed by her medical records, which suggest a condition of medical instability. There are also several visits to psychiatric hospitals as proof of this.

Tabar also made attempts to reach Angelina Jolie, asking her to stand up for a woman in need of support.

"The Islamic Republic has a history of tormenting women. We need to be united against this gender apartheid," Tabar said.

Tabar’s lawyers are hoping for a complete pardon based on her medical condition and age at the time of the alleged crime.
