Priyanka Chopra Jonas is a famous actress and activist. However, she may have set her eyes on something far greater.
In an interview with U.K.’s Sunday Times, she opened up about her political aspirations.
The actress stated in the interview that she would “love to run for prime minister of India” and for her husband, actor and musician Nick Jonas, to “run for president.” Chopra also stated that she doesn’t “like the things associated with politics” but that her and Jonas’ aspirations involve making a change.
The 36-year-old actress also went to say that she has “tried to be apolitical all my life because I like to cheer for humanity.”
Chopra has been vocal about the positive changes she wishes for the world through her UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadorship, a position she has held since 2016.
She states that she has seen violence all over the world and that she hopes “every country has its own culture and we can be proud of it...I can go to any country in the world and identify with someone because I’m human.”
In another interview with Associated Press, Chopra opened up about being bullied during her teenage years due to her appearance and skin color.
However, she says that she was raised in a progressive family and that it shaped how she views the world.
“Our parents came [to America] and worked really hard and the only way they survived the move was because they put their heads down. Now my generation is like, ‘No, I have aspirations and I want to have a voice.’” Chopra went on to name movies that are finally majorly representing women and black people; such as Wonder Woman and Black Panther respectively. But the actress added, “But in all of that, where do you see brown people?”
Chopra is now using her story, status, and platform to help push inclusion and diversity.
