Sign In Front Of A Local Coffee Shop Is Going Viral For Obvious Reasons (Photo)

A photo of a sign outside a Roanoke, Virginia, coffee shop is going viral online. The photo is of a sandwich board placed outside a local coffee shop in the Grandin Village area of Roanoke, long known as an area with lots of local shops and a funky vibe and unique spirit, WDBJ 7 reports.

Written on the sandwich board is the following message: “One small coffee” $5.00 “One small coffee, please” $3.00 “Hello, I’d like one small coffee please.” $1.75

The board belongs to CUPS Coffee & Tea, WDBJ 7. The photo has already gone viral; it was uploaded to the photo-sharing site imgur on July 10 and has been viewed over 1.8 million times in four days. People reportedly love the store’s call for proper manners — a surcharge if customers don’t say “hello” and “please.” One user wrote: “Barista here. Not having your coffee yet is not an excuse for rudeness.” Another added, “A great solution for a world where manners seem to be too much trouble!” Austin Simms, of CUPS Coffee & Tea, said he was just trying to be funny.

“I decided because I need to solve all the injustices of the world to start charging more for people who didn’t take the time to say hello and connect and realize we’re all people behind the counter,” Simms told WDBJ 7. It looks like Simms’ sentiment is shared by many others as well.
