Grocery Store Puts Up ‘Super Hero Parking’ Sign (Photos)
March 1, 2017 by Brendan Kelly
The owners of a Kansas grocery store were shocked to see what happened to their store after they put up a sign in support of veterans.
A photo of a sign put up by the Manhattan, Kansas, Hy-Vee store went viral, sparking a significant increase in business.
The America Going Blue Facebook page, a pro-police page, shared a photo of a sign at the store. The sign in the store’s parking lot reserves a space for “Super Hero Parking Only,” which the sign lists as “Veterans, Active Duty, EMTs, Police Force, Fire Fighters.”
The store reserves parking spaces for the brave men and women who have chosen to serve in such roles.
According to Mad World News, the photo of the sign quickly began to spread on social media, leading to an influx of customers as people came to support a business supportive of those who serve the country.
The Hy-Vee isn’t the only store with “Super Hero” parking signs either. Viewers on Facebook claim to have seen the same signs at grocery stores in their cities in other states as well.
One viewer commented with a photo of her husband in front of the same sign in Fairfield, Iowa.
“Here in Fairfield, Iowa too! My husband and I were so happy when we saw this!” Ashley Mackan commented. “Him being a police officer for a decade and it might seem silly but it’s a small step in the right direction. It’s like someone is finally saying thank you to all the men and women who protect us and have protected us every day!”
According to WOFL, similar signs have been popping up around Brevard County, Florida. The city of Cocoa, Florida, reportedly posted Super Hero parking signs outside of city hall, and the assistant city manager, Matt Fuhrer, says there are plans to add more at a municipal parking lot downtown.
“Certainly the signs generated a buzz immediately,” Fuhrer told WOFL. “We’ve received no complaints as far as parking space being limited.”
Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey loved the idea and decided that he wanted to recognize veterans in parking lots for every precinct, as well as at the jail and the courthouse. “We absolutely love our veterans and our public safety officers wanted to make sure we recognized them,” Ivey said. He added: “You know hopefully other cities and governments across the state and the country will pick up on the idea as well.”
