Michele Bachmann: God Chose Trump To Be GOP Nominee

Michele Bachmann told a Christian news channel that God “raised up” Donald Trump and selected him to be the 2016 Republican presidential nominee. “I don’t think God sits things out,” Bachmann, a former Republican congresswoman in Minnesota, told CBN News’ “The Brody File” in an interview released on Aug. 30. “He’s a sovereign God. Donald Trump became our nominee. I think it’s very likely that in the day that we live in, that Donald Trump is the only individual who could win in a General Election of the 17 who ran.”

Bachmann went on to explain that, though she initially backed Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas for the GOP nomination, who she thought was “fabulous,” she saw that “at the end of the day God raised up'” Trump for the nomination. Citing the Biblical book of Daniel, Bachmann said: “It teaches us that the most high God lifts up who He will and takes down who he will.”

“And I look at this primary race that the Republicans had, 17 great candidates…” she continued. “…So that’s why my prayers and my actions and my work on a daily basis is to make sure that Donald Trump becomes, ‘President Trump’ the first Tuesday of November this 2016.” Bachmann has known Trump for five years and serves on his campaign’s Evangelical Advisory Executive Board to offer guidance on issues of faith.

The board, Bachmann said, is one of the major reasons evangelicals should rally behind him. Nearly four out of five white evangelical voters support Trump, a Pew Research Center survey published July 15 found.
